FAQ
Q: How long will it take to provision my environment?
A: You will "instantly" receive login information after your
purchase so you will be able to create and clone VMs immediately.
Q: Is CPU capped?
A: No. We reserve the CPU specified to guarantee a minimum level of
performance, but there is usually plenty of spare CPU capacity available
(up to the "Max CPU" specification above).
If you have high-CPU machines and need a guarantee of more CPU cycles
than what is included in your environment (for call center applications,
PBX applications, etc.), you may purchase extra. Please
contact us for more information.
Q: What do you mean by Unlimited VMs?
A: The specs in each environment is not "per VM". It is a "pool" of
resources that you may use to create VMs. You decide how large any
particular VM is. For example, in the Large environment, you could create
16 x 512MB-Memory VMs, or you could create 1 x 4GB-Memory VM and
32 x 128MB-Memory VMs. It's entirely up to you how you want to configure
your VMs.
Q: How do I control my environment?
A: If you have a Windows machine, you may download the VMware Client and
control your environment with it. Otherwise, we have a server that you
can connect to gain access to the VMware Client through a Remote Desktop
client.
Q: Can I upgrade/downgrade my environment?
A: Yes. We will need to migrate your storage (hot) from one disk storage
area to another, and can do this with no downtime if you have no snapshots
on your VMs, otherwise, we can do this when your VMs are powered down.
Q: What operating system images do you have?
A: We have Microsoft Windows images. For Linux, we have most every ISO
available and suggest you install Linux from scratch. There are so many
variants and so many options available during an install that we typically
suggest a fresh install. It doesn't take long and gives you the best
flexibility.
Many applications are available from
JumpBox.
Genesis is an
Authorized JumpBox Hosting Partner
and can host each JumpBox individually for $20/month, or we have an option where you can
have access to all JumpBoxes if you have a JumpBox subscription.
If this is not an option, and you have a virtual appliance that you wish
to upload, or have us download, we can import it for you.
Q: Do you really allow up to 8 vCPUs even on the Tiny plan?
A: Yes. We reserve CPU resources as specified, so you are only guaranteed
what you purchase, but there will most likely be plenty of spare capacity.
If the server where your VM is running is very busy, and you choose
8 vCPUs for your VM in a Medium plan (2GHz of CPU), each vCPU will get
250MHz of clock cycles. This isn't typical, though, where a server
is 100% utilized.
